Week 12. The last week of the first trimester! Holy smokes. I’ll probably start growing a real belly soon. =) I can already feel myself returning to “normal.” In the last week, I have eaten (and enjoyed) two things I haven’t wanted to eat in a long time. Chinese food and ice cream. I’m not in a particular hurry to eat either one again, but it wasn’t so bad. The ice cream was particularly good. Mmm, double dip waffle cone. I felt like I overdid it, but it was yummy. My dad would be proud. He says I need to eat more crap like that. =P I have also been less tired. I am tired some, but I’m not quite the narcoleptic zombie I was those first few weeks!
We bought a new entertainment center this week. We’re excited to have it since the living room looks soooo much nicer (it’s our first piece of furniture that WE purchased that we didn’t put together out of particle board =P), but really it’s our first step toward baby/toddler-proofing. Not only was our old one falling apart (put-together furniture just isn’t made to be moved three times), but it had easy access to everything. Buttons, cords, cables, outlets, CDs, DVDs, etc. Everything a mobile little person with little fingers shouldn’t be getting into. So the new one is much sturdier and everything is behind doors and in drawers. Yay! Pete was commenting how surreal it was to think things like, “okay, this should go in a higher drawer, this should go in a lower drawer.” Or “this game I’ll put in the office since it’s rated M.” Some of these things won’t really matter for a while, but might as well start making good habits now.
I was heartbroken to learn this weekend that a good friend (just a week ahead of me) had a miscarriage a short while back. =( Even though we already heard our baby’s heartbeat, I am praying constantly for the health of our little one. We’ll say some extra prayers for my friend, too. She seems to be doing well, but I can only imagine what it’s like to experience something like that.
Another random thought. People talk about emotions during pregnancy. I haven’t really experienced that too much. I haven’t cried at the drop of a hat or anything (yet). Buuuut this last week, there were a couple of things that made my eyes water just a little. =) First, I was reading about someone else’s experience having an ultrasound (roughly same stage of pregnancy as me). Today, I was reading reviews on cribs and baby furniture. One reviewer mentioned how she can easily bend over the crib rail to kiss her baby boy goodnight. Eeeeee~ I can hardly imagine kissing MY little one goodnight, but it’s fun to try. =)
Forgot to take the pic today. Thought of it a couple of times, but got so sidetracked working on the house (a very productive day!) that I forgot again. I’ll try to update this post with a pic soon. If I continue to procrastinate, I will certainly post one for week 13 as I enter the second trimester! (omg!)
Cartoon baby! 2½ inches long and looking more human! =D
