Week 17

OHHHH myyyy gosh, I had to get up THREE TIMES to pee last night.  Three times!  And I’m not even halfway there.  Pretty soon, I’ll just have to pee all night and I’ll go take brief naps when I’m not peeing.  Better yet, maybe I’ll just kill two birds with one stone and sleep on the toilet.  What the heck?  I hope last night was a fluke and not the beginning of a new trend.  Geez.  I’m not prepared for that yet.

On a better note, I slept with a body pillow last night and IT WAS WONDERFUL.  A while back, when I was really having a hard time learning to sleep on my side (it’s still unnatural, but much better), I spent a lot of time researching pregnancy pillows.  There are several, and the reviews vary widely, from verrrry positive to very negative.  They’re expensive though, and while I’m willing to spend money for a good night’s sleep, I wasn’t prepared to take the gamble yet.  I bought some time by getting a fluffier pillow for my head and putting another pillow between my knees, which did help.  But the body pillow is 109283479234823 times better.  It was $9 at Walmart and another $9 for the somewhat-scratchy-but-acceptable pillow case. I think I’ll stick with this if it continues to work out so well. Many of those pregnancy pillows are much bigger, and I don’t know if there will be enough room on the bed for both Pete and me if I have a bigger pillow.

Speaking of last night and sleep, I had a dream that I had my ultrasound and it was a boy!  It was…very obvious.  Very obvious, almost frighteningly so.  Such a tiny baby, and such a…anyway.  It was weird though because, especially earlier on, I had this unshakable feeling that it’s a girl.  My hunches are almost always wrong though, especially if I have a 50/50 chance of getting it right [flashback to true/false questions on optometry school tests, hello].  My dad, my grandma (mom’s mom), and a few random people say it’s a boy.  A few friends think girl.  And my aunts and cousins on my dad’s side think girl, probably because, statistically speaking, they figure there HAS to be another girl in the family someday.  I guess we’ll find out (hopefully) a week from Tuesday!  I can’t wait to SEE my little baby!

Side note: I just remembered that I had another dream that the kid had only one leg.  Heh.  Weird.  I’d love my one-legged kid very much if that’s what God gave me, but odds are…my dreams don’t really mean much. =P

I can’t wait to feel the baby move, which I guess could happen in the next week or two…or three.  I’ve been paying extra close attention, which is kind of annoying because I’m aware of every little bubble or gurgle.  Usually, it’s just digestion.  Or gas….  A couple of times, there have been some unidentifiable sensations, but nothing that ever happened again, and it’s still early, so it probably wasn’t baby.  One time was a couple of nights ago.  It was slightly on the left side, and it felt like being thumped from the inside.  This afternoon, I felt one quick little knock really low in my abdomen.  It felt nothing like the other sensation (which was probably just gas again, but it didn’t feel like it).  Most people say it feels like flutters or bubbles at first.  And once it happens, it starts happening more often so you can figure out that it really is the baby.  None of that yet, so I’ll probably just keep driving myself crazy until I really feel it.

Bump is still barely noticeable, but it’s not unnoticeable. Depending on what I’m wearing, people who know me can see it a bit.  A few times this week, I’ve caught myself resting my hand on my tummy when I’m sitting down.  Since there’s actually something to rest my hand on now, I guess.  Pete says it feels a little different to hug me now.  Speaking of hugging Pete, he said something weeks ago when we hugged.  He called it a baby sandwich. =)  Then he commented that that’s kind of weird when he thinks about it, but we still call it a baby sandwich anytime we hug each other. =D

Something that I’m less than thrilled about.  What’s the first thing I think I’m growing out of?  My pants?  Well maybe, some days.  Some of them were a bit loose to begin with, so they’re still ok.  Some of them I can only wear with the belly band, but I’m not to the point of buying new pants yet.  My bra?  No, as much as I talk about liking the changes taking place there, I can loosen the straps and use a different hook and get away with the ones I had.  My shirts?  No, still a good bit to grow before I need new shirts.  So what article of clothing am I having problems with now?  MY UNDERWEAR!  Panties, knickers, underpants, whatever you want to call ’em….

What the heck? I’ve been rubbing coconut oil on my tummy in the vain attempt (I know it’s futile)  to ward off stretch marks there.  Guess I should have been rubbing it ON MY BUTT!  *lol*

In other news, I got new shoes (bear with me, this is somewhat relevant).  I finally wore right through the sole of my trusty old black flats.  They had been getting close for a while, but I stepped on a rock in the Braum’s parking lot after buying milk, and…rock met toe.  Awesome.  I was realllly trying to put off the shoe purchase since I’m afraid of my feet growing too much in the later weeks of pregnancy.  So I got online and ordered some new black shoes, which arrived on Monday.  It’s these: *link*, but I got ’em at 30% off. =D  Say what you will about Earth shoes.  I get that the negative heel might be bad voodoo, but after buying a brown pair (different style) by chance a year or so ago when the Walking Company went out of business at the mall, I decided they’re fantastic (for me).  I won’t go so far as to recommend them to others.  I don’t want to be blamed for someone’s achilles tendonitis, but they help my posture, especially with my slight lordosis.  They also have excellent arch support and a wide toe box.  So they seem to help my feet, back, and legs when I’m working and on my feet for a significant portion of the day.

Has anyone seen or tried this Amazon Mom thing?  It looks like something I’ll like…once I figure out what kind of diapers work best for my kiddo.

Cartoon baby time.  About 5 inches long!

  1. I never tried the Amazon baby thing. I found the cheapest place to buy diapers was at Sam’s in bulk. THis only works from Size 1 to size 4. After that Walmart is just as cheap for size 5/6 and pull ups. Note: Sams DOES NOT carry infant or newborn sizes.

    • I know! That’s why I know I’m reeaallly in for it. She’s so cozy by my bladder, I can barely make it an hour sometimes…and if she moves…no one get in my way, haha. So I can only imagine what it’ll be like when she’s bigger and weighs a lot more.
