Today (okay yesterday, by the time I actually finish up this post). So Tuesday. I had my 16 week OB appointment. Which I’ve been VERY excited about. Not as much for the appointment itself (though that too). But also because I knew I was supposed to schedule my big ultrasound today. But more on that later. Here’s how the appointment went:

Got there early (as usual, I mean I try to show up 15 minutes early for most any Dr appointment, though I know for these I probably don’t need to be quite so early since they don’t need a ton of information from me every time). When I checked in, I asked if I can head on back to do my urine sample (I misplaced my specimen container, plus I wasn’t sure how I was going to tote that around with me to and from work and everything. They said sure.

So I went on back. On my way down (it’s a long hallway to the bathroom, and you pass all the exam rooms along the way), I passed my Dr at his computer workstation, and he said when I was done, I could just go into the exam room rather than walking all the way back down. Awesome! Except I’m early and Pete was supposed to meet me there.

I got into the bathroom, and before I even peed in the cup, I sent Pete a text to tell him the room number and that I was getting in early. Actually, I sent the text to my mom first (oops), THEN I messaged Pete.

I was about to turn down the hallway to go to my room when the nurse (or I think MA) called me over to the scale (never noticed there was one on that end of the hallway because we usually stop at the one on the other end right when you go back). Then we went into the room where she took my blood pressure, which was 126/62 this time.

I still hadn’t heard anything from Pete, and I was pretty sure he was going to miss the appointment. I think I sent him another text. But the Dr was in in no time at all. We chatted just a bit, I think mostly he asked if I had felt movement yet. I told him I really wasn’t sure. There was one night around 15+5 I really thought I did. But it’s so inconsistent, I have no confidence. I did tell him I was 8 days away from when I first felt movement with my daughter, so I am definitely paying attention. 🙂

Then I got up on the exam table. He said I gained some weight this time, so he was happy about that. I only gained 23 lbs with S, and I worried that my Dr would be onto me for that since based on BMI, I was underweight pre-preg. Only barely in the underweight category this time, but at least on paper “they” say normal weight folks should gain 25 lbs. I wouldn’t mind gaining 25 lbs with this pregnancy. I will do my part! But we’ll see how it goes. I don’t like being reprimanded. 😛 I looked at my records online the night following the appointment, and I saw I gained 3 lbs. I guess it’s progress. I keep thinking the weight gain is going to ramp up soon.

THIS PARAGRAPH IS A TMI PARAGRAPH. Please skip past this one if you’re worried about TMI woman stuff. He asked me if I had any questions this time, so I told him I’d had some itching last couple of days, and I wondered if I might be getting a yeast infection. So he suggested the generic Monistat and just apply the cream inside. He answered some of my questions about that, which was all pretty much what I thought, but I felt better hearing it from him. (Update from the night after the appointment: I was kicking myself for forgetting to go to the store for the cream on my way home from the Dr appointment. But the itching was so mild, I wasn’t even totally sure I was going to need anything. The main thing that concerned me was that it was persistent. But it wasn’t so bad that it bothered me all the time. If I were the least bit distracted–like driving, working, talking, etc.–I’d forget about it. But then I went home and sat down–ahhh, the itching. So finally on my way home from work tonight, I bought some and just applied some out of the little tube of cream. It kinda felt like a waste to buy it and not even use the applicators/suppositories–just the cream which is this tiny little tube that almost seems like an afterthought. But I’m already feeling better after just one application of that, so I’m thinking that was $6 well-spent.

SO anyway, the appointment. Dr did check my fundus height this time (I had wondered about that at my last appointment). He kind of palpated starting from below where my uterus definitely was, and with the other hand he felt from above where it most likely wasn’t. Then kind of merged to the middle where he felt the top of it. (At least this is how it appeared to my untrained eye.) He didn’t get out a tape measure or anything, but he pointed “right there,” and said it was just right. So that’s good enough for me.

Next I heard the heartbeat. It was so wonderful to hear. Perfection to my ears. 🙂 I wish now though that I’d paid more attention to where he found it. It seems to me like MAYBE baby likes hanging out on my left side. But again I’m not really sure what I’m feeling!

Then we talked about scheduling my next appointments. The most exciting of which is my morphology scan! Here are my next appointments:

Monday, June 16 – 11:15 AM – ULTRASOUND APPOINTMENT!!!! If I could make that in big, glittery, flashing type, I would. I will be exactly 19 weeks along on that day. That’s 2 weeks and 5 days from when I’m typing this. I seriously can. not. wait. The only thing I’m bummed about is the fact I can’t bring S with me. Which I get. But she’d get the hugest kick out of it. So it’s kind of unfortunate. Anyway, the coming days are going to crawl. My doctor said they’ll tell me the sex at this appointment, but we’d discuss any further details at my next visit with him which will be . . .

Monday, June 23 – 11:00 AM – 20 week appointment. Hopefully it will be all good news.
