I’m incredibly bad at updating lately. I don’t know if it’s that nothing is really happening, or I forget to jot down every little thing that happens so I actually remember to write about it later. Probably a combination of the two.

First, the OB appointment. When I got there, I didn’t have to pee yet (for once), so, since I was early, I thought I’d wait five to ten and then go try to pee in the cup. Sure enough, the nurse (a different one, the one who I met at my verrrryyy first visit before my blood was drawn) called me back while I was in the potty. I wasn’t intercepted on my way back to the waiting room, so I just waited to get called back again.

Weighed first as usual. I’ve gained about 14 lbs so far. Nurse took my blood pressure. They never tell me what it is, and I haven’t bothered asking. They just say, “good.” Not that blood pressure was ever an issue pre-preg. I guess they’d tell me if anything was off.

Then I got the information for the glucola test, which I get to enjoy next time. For those who haven’t had a kid in the last few years (I’ve had to explain this to everyone in the previous generation), they screen all prego women for gestational diabetes now. It’s a non-fasting (thank goodness) blood glucose test to see if they need to do additional testing to see if I have gestational diabetes. They’ll also check my iron and see if I’ll need RhoGAM. I’m not worried about the gestational diabetes, I’m not worried about having blood drawn. But I WAS worried about having to drink a nasty, sugary concoction. Thankfully, I’m hearing from various sources that the glucola really isn’t bad at all. I just have to get it down in 5 minutes, then wait an hour for them to draw my blood.

The doctor came in quickly after the nurse left. She measured my fundal height: 27 cm. Then she started palpating my tummy to see how the baby was positioned. She wasn’t 100%, but she thinks lil girl might be head down. Corroborating evidence: increased pressure on my bladder lately (though really, it’s not TOO bad…I’m sure it’ll be getting a lot worse) and the location of her kicks (usually kind of on my left side, though they can be anywhere). At 26 weeks and a few days, though, I’m sure she can (and probably will) move around a bit before she settles into that position later in the pregnancy. I don’t really care what she does right now, so long as she finds that position acceptable when it’s time to be born. =)

I don’t think baby girl really appreciated all the prodding around in her space, though, because she wasn’t very agreeable when the Dr tried to get her heartbeat. She kept moving around, and she kicked the fetal Doppler a few times. =) Finally got it: 150 bpm.

So far, so good! My next appointment is in TWO weeks: December 7 @ 2:45. Into the third trimester (OMG) and appointments every two weeks. (Did I already say…OMG????)

Other random things from the last couple of weeks:

Baby is incredibly active at times. Sometimes, when she gets going, she kicks HARD! And in rapid succession. One night she was doing this after we went to bed, so I put Pete’s hand on my side. He was like, Whoa! …Is she angry??? It made me smile.

Got to play with another sweet baby girl. A dear friend was visiting the area, so we got to meet her 5 month old. She was super cute and lots of fun. =)

Weird pregnancy symptom that I had for a couple of days: bloody nose. Not like, gushing. But definitely inconvenient. Usually it’s just kinda bloody boogers, but this time it was running. (Yay, another opportunity to gross you out.) It’s normal, but it’s not one of the things you normally think about.

Trying to figure out what baby things we’ll need/want. It’s a huge headache for people like us who thoroughly research every little thing. So when there’s a LOT to get, and it’s almost all stuff we don’t know anything about, it’s overwhelming and it takes forever. But we’re making progress.

Lots of people ask about my pregnancy now. I guess I’ll be due for another belly pic in the next update.
